Suburban Lifestyle In South Florida

The suburban lifestyle in South Florida is unlike the suburban lifestyle anywhere in the nation, and perhaps even the world. A large part of what makes life in this southernmost region of America's Sunshine State is its tropical climate, and warm, sunny, maritime environment.
Your toughest decision when checking into the available suburban homes in South Florida will most likely be choosing which suburb or suburban area to focus on first. There are so many relatively large metropolitan areas from which to choose - each containing a large variety of unique and distinct suburbs. You have Fort Lauderdale(population: 165,521), West Palm Beach (population: 99,199), and, of course, Miami (population: 399,457) just to name a few.

In addition all of the aforementioned sunshine, South Florida is also where the suburban lifestyle includes:
  • Several world-class beaches, such as Pompano Beach, South Beach and Miami Beach
  • Cozy key hideaways, from Key Largo to Key West
  • Palm trees swaying gently in warm, tropical breezes
  • Sprawling high-end resorts, with shaded outdoor day spas and PGA-quality golf courses
  • All the professional sports action you can handle: Miami Dolphins, NFL; Florida Marlins, MLB; Florida Panthers, NHL; and Miami Heat, NBA
  • Intracoastal waterway: 3,000-mile water highway, made up primarily of saltwater rivers, natural inlets and man-made canals
  • Wildlife sanctuaries
  • No state income tax
  • Diverse population, socially and culturally influenced by its Gulf of Mexico neighbors, like the Caribbean, and Central and South America

Suburban Miami

As the largest city in the state, Miami naturally has the largest, most diverse suburban lifestyle in South Florida. Here are some fun details about three of the city's most popular suburban communities.
Coconut Grove, while technically categorized as a City of Miami neighborhood, has a suburban aura about it. Located just across downtown Miami's southern border, Coconut Grove was an independent community until it was annexed by Miami in the 1920s. Today, The Grove is a hip and trendy entertainment destination for locals and tourists alike, especially its gigantic, multi-level palace of indulgence called CocoWalk.
Coral Gables, aptly nicknamed the ‘City Beautiful’, is a planned community peppered with spectacular and stately homes. It also contains The Biltmore, an ultra-luxurious hotel, some truly beautiful fountains, like the De Soto Boulevard Venetian fountain, and myriad high-end shops and eateries.
Kendall, conversely, offers a comparatively modest lifestyle in suburban South Florida. A little more than 75,000 people call this unincorporated commuter community home. Although the officially-defined borders of the city have been given the moniker of Kendall by the United States Census Bureau, Miami area locals also consider Country Walk, The Hammocks, Kendall Lakes, The Crossings, Three Lakes and Kendall West as part of the town. Here you will have convenient access to a diverse selection of retailers and restaurants.

Palm Beach County: Cities, Suburbs and Stats

For an area that is exceptional in every way, look no further than the community of Boca Raton. Culture, the arts, splendid dining options, and upscale shopping are just part of the many features that make Boca Raton a place where the residents can live the life that they have always dreamed of. The white sandy beaches create a place where relaxation is a part of everyday life. This affluent community also offers some of the best golf country clubs.

A sprawling city, with few high-rise sturctures, Coral Springs is a planned community that has grown rapidly over the past several decades. The town offers its residents over 50 municipal parks, as well as an open-air shopping center known as The Walk.

Miami-Dade County: Cities, Suburbs and Stats

Nearly 3 million people make Miami-Dade County their home, which makes it the seventh-most populous county in the nation. As a result, Miami-Dade County Public Schools is the fourth largest school district in the U.S., serving more than 340,000 students and providing jobs for more than 40,000 area residents.
Roughly one third of the county's inhabited land area is sparsely populated, open, agricultural space - a stark contrast to the densely populated urban landscape in and around Miami. The suburban lifestyle in Miami-Dade County extends westward all the way to Everglades National Park, and eastward off the mainland to Biscayne Bay.
